Recruitment for the Post of Chief Information Technologist, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore

The Indian Institute of Science is setting up an IT Office.  The IT office will have the mandate of making IISc  IT-ready in all respects and ensuring smooth functioning of all IT services, and providing a user-friendly and seamless  IT technical support (24x7) to everyone in IISc. Applications are sought for the post of a Chief Information Technologist. The chief information Technologist is a full-time consultant  and is entrusted with the following duties.

Develop an overall IT plan to meet IISc’s mission. This would involve: assessing and evolving  IISc’s IT requirements;  Planning to create a dynamic IT infrastructure for growing needs; Anticipate and respond to changing IT requirements of the Institute; Adherence to fiscal discipline; Making the Institute IT-ready in all respects.

Manage day-to-day  IT operations through the  IT office. This would involve: ensuring smooth functioning of all IT services like internet service, institute web pages, email service, campus cellular mobile coverage, campus WiFi coverage, campus security systems, online and computer based teaching; ensuring smooth functioning of IT solutions for various administrative units; constant coordination with administrative units to provide IT services mentioned above; meeting operational performance metrics (or SLAs) for each IT service; ensuring robustness to cyber-attacks and protection of data; maintenance of hardware and software related to IT ; planned upgradation of hardware and software related to IT; managing a team of IT professionals in the  IT office;  providing a user-friendly and pleasant IT technical support (24x7) to everyone in IISc.

Qualifications: BE/BTech Degree or MCA Degree or MSc Degree in Computer Science/Information Technology/Electronics from a recognized institute and at least 10 years of experience in Operations, Administration, and Management (OA&M) of IT services for academic institutions or corporate institutions.

Age: The candidate should be born after January 1, 1960. This could be relaxed in the case of candidates with  exceptional track record .

Consulting Fee: The base consulting fee will be fixed between Rs. 75,000/- and Rs. 1,50,000/- per month depending on the qualifications, experience, and suitability of the candidate. Performance-based remuneration enhancements may be fixed by the Institute through technical reviews at regular intervals.
