  1. The South Asian University (SAU) is looking for faculty members who are outstanding scholars, and whose research and teaching interests will expand or complement the existing academic programs of the university.   3. General Eligibility Conditions
    1. Assistant Professor
      1. An Assistant Professor should be a brilliant and highly productive scholar with a great promise to excel in academics.
      2. Essential Qualifications:
        Ph.D. degree from a recognized University/Institution; and Master’s Degree in relevant subject area with at least 60% marks or equivalent grade (for Science subjects); OR with at least 55% marks or equivalent grade (for Social Science and Humanities). Post-doctoral research/teaching experience of at least 2 years (excluding the period spent for obtaining the research degree).
        Note:
        Teaching/research experience before the award of Ph.D. degree may be counted with following conditions:
        1. Two years of pre-Ph.D. teaching will be counted as equivalent of one year of post-doctoral teaching/research experience.
        2. Post-Ph.D. experience will only be counted if the experience was not obtained while pursuing Ph.D. or other degrees, and was acquired on a regular confirmed position and/or regular full time contractual position with responsibilities of full-time teaching / research.
      3. Desirable Qualifications:
        High quality research publications in reputed journals/books.
    2. Associate Professor
      1. An Associate Professor should be an established independent researcher with immaculate academic credentials.
      2. Essential Qualifications:
        Ph.D. degree from a recognized University/Institution; and Master’s Degree in relevant subject area with at least 60% marks or equivalent grade (for Science subjects); OR with at least 55% marks or equivalent grade (for Social Science and Humanities). Post-doctoral research/teaching experience of at least 6 years (excluding the period spent for obtaining the research degree).
        Notes:
        1. Post-Ph.D. experience will only be counted if the experience was not obtained while pursuing Ph.D. or other degrees, and was acquired on a regular confirmed position and/or regular full time contractual position with responsibilities of full-time teaching/ research.
        2. Experience of teaching at the undergraduate level will not be considered as relevant experience.

      1. A Professor should be an eminent scholar with evidence of outstanding scholarship and international recognition.
      2. Essential Qualifications:
        Ph.D. degree from a recognized University/Institution; and Master’s Degree in relevant subject area with at least 60% marks or equivalent grade (for Science subjects); OR with at least 55% marks or equivalent grade (for Social Science and Humanities). Post-doctoral research and/or postgraduate teaching experience of at least 12 years (excluding the period spent for obtaining the research degree).
        Notes:
        1. Post-Ph.D. experience will only be counted if the experience was not obtained while pursuing Ph.D. or other degrees, and was acquired on a regular confirmed position and/or regular full time contractual position with responsibilities of full-time teaching/ research.

  5. Selection Process :
    All applications will be screened by a committee of experts that will shortlist candidates based upon their academic record and research output. Short-listed candidates will be invited for an interview. For the post of Assistant Professor, candidates will have to make a short class room type presentation on a given topic at the time of interview so as to assess his/her ability to teach. Ability to teach and communicate effectively with students will form an important component of the assessment of a candidate for a faculty position. Candidates from outside India who are unable to attend the interview will be interviewed through Video-conferencing / Skype.
  6. Salary, Benefits and Incentives :
    1. Salary package being offered by SAU is highly attractive, compared to what faculty members are offered in Central or State Universities in India. The annual basic salary range at SAU is US$ 30,000 to 40,000 for the position of Professor, US$ 20,000 to 30,000 for Associate Professor, and US$ 15,000 to 20,000 for Assistant Professor. Selected candidates who meet the minimum essential criteria of qualifications and experience will be offered a basic salary in the beginning of the pay range. Higher starting basic salary may be offered to candidates with significantly greater experience than the minimum required for the position.
    2. Allowances : To the basic salary will be added a dearness allowance (currently 86% of the basic salary, revised twice every year), House rent allowance (25% of the basic) and contribution to pension fund (10% of the basic salary) as per rules.
    3. Annual increment : A 3% annual increment in basic salary will be provided.
    4. Tax exemption : Salary and allowances of faculty members of SAU are exempt from Indian income tax.
    5. Professional Development Allowance (PDA): The University provides a sum of US $ 2000 per year to all faculty members as “Professional Development Allowance”. These funds may be used for buying books, research material and professional travel to attend conferences, seminars, workshops and field work.
    6. Start-up funds : For faculty members whose research-work depends upon the availability of substantial research funds, there is a provision of a start-up research grant for up to first three years, as a stop-gap measure for the period in which they shall be required to apply for their own research grants from national and international granting agencies.
    7. Health coverage : The University offers health benefit schemes as per SAU Rules/ Regulations.
    8. Relocation allowance : Newly appointed faculty members are entitled to a relocation allowance for travel to Delhi along with their family members, and for covering the cost of transporting household goods and luggage as per SAU Regulations. The allowance (upper limit of one month’s basic salary) will be payable upon submission of receipts of actual expenses on travel and transportation of household goods.
    9. Carry home salaries : Salaries are paid in Indian Rupees. On the minimum of the salary ranges mentioned above, the salary of a Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor would be approximately INR 3,23,000 INR 2,15,000 and INR 1,61,000 per month, respectively (inclusive of basic salary, DA and HRA but exclusive of Pension Fund Contribution) at the current dollar exchange rate of US$ 61.25. As mentioned above salaries and allowances areexempt from Indian Income Tax.
    10. At the time of initial recruitment at all entry levels, the faculty member will be offered a contract appointment for five years. At the end of the contract period, the academic performance, in addition to contribution to University corporate life, of the faculty member will be evaluated. A favorable assessment will result in regularization of the services of the faculty member.
  7. Visa: SAU will sponsor selected candidates, who are not citizens of India, for special SAU Visa from the Government of India
  8. Leave : SAU has provision for duty leave, casual leave, earned leave, medical leave and sabbatical leave as per the University’s Rules, Regulations and Byelaws. Long leave will, however, be permissible only after three years of stay at SAU.
  9. Duties and Responsibilities
    1. In all matters, faculty members will follow University Rules, Regulations and Bye-laws laid down by the Executive Council and Governing Board from time to time.
    2. The Academic Calendar followed by the University is:
      Monsoon Semester          July 26 to December 10
      Winter Semester              January 11 to May 25
      Summer Vacation           May 26 to July 25
      Winter Vacation               December 11 to January 10
      SAU follows a 40-hour work week with holidays on Saturdays and Sundays and some other notified holidays. The average weekly teaching load may vary from 4 to 10 hours of actual class-room teaching. Tutorial / laboratory contact hours may be extra. Teachers are expected to regularly update the contents of the courses they teach in view of the new knowledge that becomes available from time to time in their areas of teaching and research. In addition, they will evaluate the performance of students and conduct / guide their research work.
    3. A faculty member is expected to:
      1. Apply for and obtain external funding to enable development of independent research as well as to develop links with other departments across the University and elsewhere.
      2. Have the ability to teach effectively over a range of topics at the post-graduate level, not exclusively in the area of his/her research expertise, in lectures, lab sessions and tutorials.
      3. Supervise the research of students registered for a Master’s or M.Phil/Ph.D. program.
    4. Faculty members are also expected to contribute to various institution-building tasks implicit in the growth of SAU. For example, faculty colleagues may be called upon to share some administrative responsibilities including working on various university committees, and expert groups, participating / overseeing extra-curricular activities of students or other duties assigned by the University authorities from time to time. Faculty members may also be required to devote part of the vacation period for work related to admissions and evaluation.

These would include Elected Fellowships of Prestigious Professional Academies, competitive scholarships, medals, orations, invited memberships to prestigious bodies, and consultancies.   2. (1) Director (Admission & Examinations) - 01 post
  3.  Grade IB – (US$ 27,000 to US$ 40,000) per annum
    Preferred Maximum Age: 54 years (Initially five years and extendable as per Rules)
    [The position is open for candidates from SAARC countries. Preference, however, would be given to candidates from countries other than India]

    This is a very senior position as the incumbent would head the Admission & Examinations department of the university. Applications are invited for this position from highly experienced and efficient candidates from any of the SAARC countries. The University will exercise great care in ensuring adequate representation of the Member States in the Grade I positions. Age of the candidate should preferably be under 54 years. The position would have initially for five years and extendable for a maximum of another five years as per rules. Candidates, who prefer to come on deputation for shorter periods, may also apply.
    Minimum Educational Qualifications and Experience:
    Master’s Degree with at least 55% marks or equivalent grades, plus at least 15 years related professional experience, of which 8 years as Deputy Registrar or in progressively responsible positions in a University/large academic institution. Successful candidate must have thorough knowledge of admissions, transfer credit requirements, degree verification, pre-conduct and post-conduct examinations and graduation procedures and processes, transcripts, academic record-keeping, and the ability to use initiative, establish priorities and meet multiple deadlines.     Responsibilities:
    The Director of Admissions & Examinations will be responsible for the whole range of activities associated with admissions and examinations in the University. These include the recruitment and admission of students, the coordination of University-wide examinations and the graduation of students.     Minimum Educational Qualifications and Experience:
    Master’s degree with at least 55% marks or equivalent grades, plus at least 3 years related professional experience in University/large academic institution in progressively responsible administrative positions in a Registrar’s Office. Desirable is five years of experience in Administration/Accounts/Admission/Vice-Chancellor’s Office as Section Officer or in an equivalent post in a Government department/university/educational or research institution.     Responsibilities:
    The Senior Assistant (Administration) is an important staff member of the University administration team and will report to the Deputy/Assistant/ Registrar. He/she will be responsible for the daily internal administration of the University. This will include procurement of supplies and services, liaising with suppliers and manufacturers, ensuring regular inventory of office/event supplies and materials, ensuring servicing of all office equipment, processing of VAT/Customs Duty exemption certificates, and processing transactions related to travel and expense reimbursements. He/she will coordinate and assist with planning of special projects and events, office activities, and committee meetings.     Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grades, plus a minimum of 3 to 5 years related professional experience in a large organisation.     Responsibilities:
    The Assistant (Accounts) will assist the Assistant Finance Officer in the management of all finance and accounts functions, including budget development and audit schedules. He/she will be responsible for accounts receivable/payable system and vendor related matters, billing, costing, verification and review of invoices, and issue of credit and debit notices. He/she will ensure records of transactions are in accordance to standard procedure, check payment details and prepare cheque payments, manage petty cash, assist in month-end closing of accounts, and perform all accounts paperwork and proper filing. In addition, he/she will produce research data, analyses and reports as needed and perform other related duties and special projects as assigned or directed.

Pension contribution (10%), Health benefits, Group Insurance and Relocation Allowance, as per rules, are also admissible. The salary will be paid in Indian Rupees and is taxable.
  1. The University reserves the right to :
    1. To fix criteria for screening the applications so as to reduce the number of candidates to be called for interview.
    2. Offer the post at the level lower than that advertised, depending upon the qualifications, experience and performance of the candidates.
    3. Draw reserve panel(s) against the possible vacancies in the future.
    4. Relax any of the desirable qualifications/experience/age at its discretion.
    5. Not-to fill up any or all the advertised posts.
    6. Modify/change the qualification/age limit and experience criteria from time to time for various non-teaching posts even after publication of this advertisement.
    7. To conduct written tests for further shortlisting the candidates for such posts where a large number of applications are received or even otherwise.
    8. Consider the applications of candidates who have not applied.
  2. The appointment would initially be for a period of five years with first year as probation period, after which it may be extended based upon performance.
  3. All applications received will be screened by a Screening Committee of experts that will short-list the candidates for written test/interview. Short-listed candidates will be informed about the date and time of the written test/selection interview. Candidates are expected to present themselves in front of the expert selection committee for the interview that will be held in SAU campus in New Delhi. Outstation candidates may be interviewed through Skype.
  4. The selection committee will be free to set its own modus operandi for conducting the interview.
  5. Written test which may be conducted for shortlisting of candidates should not be construed as a merit test. The selection will be made on the basis of relevant experience, past accomplishments and performance in the interview on the recommendation of the Selection Committee.
  6. The prescribed essential qualifications are the minimum and mere possession of the same does not entitle candidates to be called for interview. Where the number of applications received in response to an advertisement is large and it will not be convenient or possible to interview all the candidates, the University at its discretion may restrict the number of candidates to a reasonable limit on the basis of qualifications/experience higher than the minimum prescribed in the advertisement.
  7. Persons already in service in Government / Autonomous/ Public Sector Undertakings/ Universities should apply through proper channel along with vigilance clearance and integrity certificate.
  8. Canvassing in any form will be a disqualification.
  9. In case of any inadvertent mistake in the process of selection which may be detected at any stage even after the issue of letter of appointment, the University reserves the right to modify/withdraw/cancel any communication made to the candidates.
  10. Applications are required to be submitted on the prescribed format only.
  11. Candidates would be required to provide names and contact details of two referees, who can provide references relating to suitability of the candidate for the post. One of the referees must be current/most recent employer of the candidate.References from friends or relatives will not be accepted. Candidates are also required to request the two referees, mentioned by the candidates in their application form, to send recommendation letters, in a sealed cover, relating to their suitability for the post to the Registrar, South Asian University, Akbar Bhawan Campus, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi - 110021, India.
  12. Application, along with all the requisite documents as mentioned in the application form and prescribed fee of Indian Rs. 600/- (US$ 10) for posts in Gr. IB & III and Indian Rs. 300/- for other posts, clearly mentioning the post applied for on the envelope may be sent by Registered-Post / Speed-Post or submitted by hand to the Registrar, South Asian University, Akbar Bhawan Campus, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi - 110021, India. Candidates can send the prescribed fee through a Demand Draft favouring ‘the Registrar, South Asian University’ payable at Delhi or alternatively deposit the prescribed fee in the University’s Account in State Bank of India (Account no. 30796569318, Branch Code: 01624, Swift Code: SBININBB548, IFSC Code: SBIN0001624, State Bank of India, Old JNU Campus, New Delhi-110067) and endorse the details of remittance with application.
  13. Incomplete applications are liable to be rejected.
  14. The last date for receiving the applications is 29th May, 2015.
  15. Applications received after last date shall not be entertained, the University will not be responsible for any postal delay.
  16. The offer made to the selected candidates will be subject to the submission of medical fitness certificate in the prescribed form at the time of joining. The University may also ask the candidate to undergo medical check-up from the empanelled hospital/agency immediately on joining at University’s cost.
